Summer Soccer School

Engaging local youngsters in football coaching

This summer was the first time the Lighthouse Support Centre has run a week-long Soccer School for local children in primaries 5-7.

The new venture was an instant hit with 14 children from the Tillydrone community participating daily in football skills, friendly games and tailored coaching at the Riverbank Primary School playing fields.  The programme also included small group work and teaching surrounding the Biblical character, Jonah.

The week rounded off on Friday afternoon with a World Cup tournament and prize-giving.  Everyone participating received a certificate while medals and trophies were awarded to outstanding participants, including Player’s Best Player and Coaches’ Best Player.  The Sportsman of the week award was presented to Callum Clancy for his good attitude, helpfulness, and extra effort demonstrated throughout the week.

Former Rangers FC player Marvin Andrews also joined us to present the awards and share his passion to see every young person rise up and fulfil their full potential.
