Right Reverend John Chalmers

Lighthouse gets a visit from the Church of Scotland Moderator

On his recent ten day visit to Aberdeen, we were honoured to have the Right Reverend John Chalmers, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, spend time with us at the centre.

He, his wife Liz, and Reverend Hugh Wallace, the Moderator of Presbytery in Aberdeen, spent some time with the women in Transform; sharing his experiences of travelling to various countries all over the world, and even meeting the Pope!

Rev. John presented John Merson with a hand-crafted glass dove made in Bethlehem.

They then had an opportunity to meet some of our clients and volunteers over a cuppa & cake, and hear about the positive influence the Lighthouse has had in each of their lives.

As he left, Rev. John presented John Merson with a hand-crafted glass dove made in Bethlehem. The artwork is made from fragments of broken bottles and glass that was destroyed during the Israeli invasion of Bethlehem. These fragments are collected by hand and assembled into art pieces like the dove.

They signify the brokenness of our world, but also celebrates that God picks each of us, seemingly worthless and hopeless, and transforms us into a beautiful and whole creation.
