In October 2015 the Lighthouse partnered with Riverbank Primary School and Scripture Union Scotland to run a lunchtime club for P5-P7 pupils every Thursday.
The group was an instant success with 11 children attending the first week and numbers have steadily grown ever since. There are now over 30 names on the register with an average of 14 children attending each week.
The pupils are currently working through a series titled, ‘Unlikely Heroes’, exploring different characters in the Bible and how they overcame their weaknesses to make a lasting impression on the world around them. Using games, group activities and crafts, the children are encouraged to recognise the potential within themselves, too, to be successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens, and effective contributors.
In December the children also took part in a competition to name the club and design a logo. The winner, Karina (P5), designed the logo for the club which was aptly named, ‘Lighthouse Explorers’, and received her prize – a scooter – in time for Christmas.
Lighthouse Explorers continues to meet every Thursday lunchtime in Room 20 at Riverbank Primary School. All P5-P7 pupils are welcome.
