John Merson: Project Co-Ordinator
John is a qualified Urban Practitioner. His main vision and role is in spearheading social and spiritual renewal through the work of the Lighthouse Support Centre. John is a co-founder of the Lighthouse and has been involved in its development and expansion since it opened in 2003. Previously John worked offshore. He also spent 5 years in Sao Paulo working with street children and developing a prison ministry. He is a passionate fisherman.
Wilma Taylor: Project Co-Ordinator
Wilma is a co-founder of the Lighthouse and co-ordinates women’s support and community outreach. She is a member of the Lighthouse Steering Group and a Prison Fellowship Scotland volunteer. She is a graduate of Aberdeen University, M.A. (Social Sciences) and has previously worked as co-ordinator in social care agencies in the city. Wilma has an interest in compassion outreaches locally and abroad, particularly street/slum children in India.
Brian started volunteering in the Men’s Group at Lighthouse around 11 years ago, after retiring from Grampian Police. Despite his previous employment he has been well accepted by all at the Lighthouse! He believes God prepared him to use that experience in the police to better serve those whom the Lighthouse supports. Brian also forms part of the Lighthouse Steering Group.
Joan joined The Lighthouse within 3 months of it opening. Since then, she has been responsible for a wide variety of roles and tasks within the running of the centre, including overseeing the Wednesday Drop-in for Women.
Lisa Scott: Centre Manager
Lisa joined us in March 2017 as the new Centre Manager. She is responsible for managing and supporting the various activities and teams involved with The Lighthouse project. Following Mission trips to India, Sri Lanka and Nepal Lisa desired a change in career from Quantity Surveying to what she feels is more meaningful and rewarding.
Jill Humphreys: Support Worker
Jill is one of our Support Workers, focusing particularly on Family work and Addiction support. She joined the Lighthouse as a volunteer in 2008 and later joined the staff team in 2010. Jill was previously involved with outreach and social action ministry, and is now studying Social Work at RGU through distance learning.
Balli Feasey: Support Worker & BFriends Co-Ordinator
Balli joined us in November 2015 as a Support Worker and also manages the Lighthouse Cafe every Thursday. Additionally, Balli oversees our BFriends project, matching up vulnerable young people with a positive role model. Balli previously worked as a Community Development Worker for a local charity, working with young mums in Tillydone and Mastrick. Originally from Birmingham, Balli moved to Aberdeen in 1994. She is married with three children.
Pauline has been volunteering at the Lighthouse since 2010. She coordinates our Transform group and Mainly Music, as well as contributing to the Working Group. She is married with three children. Pauline previously worked as a Criminal Justice Social Worker.
Mike has faithfully served in Lighthouse projects, including the Cafe and the Men’s Drop-in, for the last 5 years. Mike boasts 25 years’ experience in Sales management.
John has been volunteering at the Lighthouse since 2014, involved with the Men’s Drop-in and Men’s Life group. With many years of experience as a bank manger, John utilises his knowledge to assist Lighthouse service-users with debt relief and finance management.
